The Primers

For some time now I have heard the mantra "Let me know when you need some help". Well that time came in April and a few select lucky ladies agreed to take on the job of priming the drywall. We got a lot done and no one grumbled, we even managed to get through the day without a single beer!

Sarah Mc. rises to the occasion and worked a masterpiece in the master bedroom.

Edith. Nice whitie tighties!

Marianne. Lovely volley!
A proud moment as Marianne's son Ben clinched a win at district play offs and made it through to the State tennis championship to be held in Portland.

Beautiful bluebells in our neighbours field. A sight to behold.

One sunny afternoon we took a break from the interior and put together a few raised beds in the sunshine.

Kirk finally making his own bed!

Eventual location of garden and orchard.

Now that the ground has hardened we did a little manicuring in the leech fields.

Kirk planting grass seed. Lovely to see all the lush Spring grass.

The Drywall Cometh

We hired Rondo Burcell from Albany, OR to install and texture drywall on the interior walls.

For a dirty messy job the crew paid attention to detail and did an excellent clean-up job.

Kirk put up a temporary railing around upstairs walkway and staircase. Amazing that we have gone a whole year without an accident!

We fully appreciate how hard these gentlemen worked and how efficiently.

Quite a transformation.

Hard to see the textures from these photos but we opted for Orange Peel on the walls and a heavier brocade on the ceilings.

Crows feet texture on ceiling.

All Fired Up!

We had to wait a full month for the stone skin to completely cure before we could fire the masonry wood stove to capacity. Once the house is finished this mass should heat the entire house. It was worth the wait and the tea was lovely as usual.

I'd rather be golfing!

As promised we found the stove very easy to start with the aid of efficient flues in the front and on the side in the chimney. This year at least we have plenty of kindling and fire wood. The oven at the top will be put to good use.

Chief wood splitter.

Oven put to test with organic Mole steaks. Delicious!!

We also fitted some of the exterior doors. Kirk made all of the door jams and custom designed the door thresholds.
Entry door to mud room. Knotty alder with clear varnish stain. Another great Craig's List purchase.

Half light door at top of stairs leading to outdoor patio. Also Craig's List

Continuing the Craigs List theme we found wood framed French doors. Image shows fitted doors in living room leading to covered patio.

....and getting warmer yet.
Insulation was contracted out to Insul 8 of Eugene. Good job and the company very easy to work with. www.freeinsulation.com
